SMO Upper Franconia

13. – 14.09.2021 | Shuttles&Co visiting the SMO project in Upper Franconia

Finally, direct exchange with other research projects and personal networking was possible again this summer. We took the opportunity to travel with a delegation to Upper Franconia and learn first-hand about the SMO project and the shuttles used there.

In particular, Valeo’s testing of new shuttle sensor technology on the Teleoperated Driving (TOF) test track and the setup of a TOF control station mirrored on the company’s premises attracted great interest from our vehicle specialists. In addition, the first results of the Coburg University of Applied Sciences on the investigation of user acceptance and user behavior through videography and surveys were presented.

In Kronach, we were able to experience the DB Regio shuttles on the test route through the city and admire the smooth mixed traffic, even in areas with a maximum permitted speed of 50 km/h.

On 14.09.2021 in Hofwe could experience the shuttles on your line from the station into the pedestrian zone in the city center. Once again, the operators had interesting experiences to report. We were then welcomed to Hof University of Applied Sciences and, with nostalgia appropriate to the location, followed the lectures on safety and incident management at Chemnitz University of Technology and the first trials of suitable human-machine interaction systems in the shuttles at Hof University of Applied Sciences in the lecture hall.

Many thanks for the hospitality, the food and the many interesting impressions to the project management team of Nuts.one but also to all other hosts especially the districts of Kronach and Hof! The evening with a joint meal in a Franconian beer garden in Kronach will linger on for a long time.

p.s. “The ride in the shuttle through Hof and here in particular through the pedestrian zone of Hof which has received an exemption for the SMO project.” – Who has received the exemption? 😉
